Recently, my BF took me on a trip up to the Gold Coast for my birthday. It was a wonderful birthday present. But never did I think that Surfer's Paradise was overrun with so many bogans, until I learned that Queensland is the worst state in Australia.  Apparently, if you're not like the locals and you wear jeans and t-shirts, you're strange, because we got stared at. The locals up there think that normal dress is thongs (not g-strings, flip-flops - we call them thongs in Australia) tank tops and shorts. They also seem to think that because they are the 'Sunshine State' that everybody should oblige to their dress code and ways of life, even when it's muggy and miserable weather. Oh how I laughed.

I had a great time, and not all of the people up there were terrible to deal with, but seriously, if you're planning a trip to Australia, visit Queensland last. I was honestly embarrassed to see such a major tourist attraction overrun with the worst display Australia has to offer. I had a drunk 40+ year old eye me up at one point while we were sitting on the beach outside KFC. Now that was disgusting. Then another idiot purposely tried to run out in front of a car when the crossing light clearly was red. The guy in the car revved it at him in anger. I hate being thrust into those types of situations, because you never know what drunk people will do. I hate drunks with a passion, and I have ZERO respect for those that think alcohol is the only way of life. I still find it hilarious that they have 'The Smart State' on their number-plates.

Dreamland and Movieworld were fun though. At Dreamland we went on The Tower of Terror II and the Giant Drop, which were pretty damn scary and some of the best rides in the Southern Hemisphere. The California Screamin' had nothing on those rides, I am happy to say, even though being at Disneyland last July/ August was fantastic and I'll never forget that trip. The Tower of Terror II might not look like much, but when you're going from 0-161km backwards, it's terrifying. My hair was a mess afterwards.

After we spent a few days up at the Gold Coast, we went down to Brisbane for the day. I've always wanted to go to Brisbane because one of my childhood television shows was filmed there, and I was able to see about four of the locations used for the show, which was a fantastic experience for me. There is no better feeling in the world than standing right where you know your favourite show was filmed. Considering the show was filmed 13 years ago, a lot of things had changed. Still, a great experience none-the-less.

I love my country, and the Gold Coast is a beautiful place. I wouldn't want to see Surfer's Paradise again after what we experienced up there, but the theme parks are fantastic and I'd go back to those. I really wanted to visit Australia Zoo because Steve Irwin was one of my favourite icons, but it was 3 hours from where we were so that wasn't an option. Maybe next time.

I was fairly disappointed at how bad Queensland is (no wonder they call Loganville, Boganville) but don't let that deter you from visiting if you plan to www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ4NuX…. ;) Just expect to see cars with stickers on the back saying:

:iconfacebooklikeplz: YOUR DAUGHTER LIKES THIS

Yes, totally sure somebody's daughter is going to like two guys breaking the law by travelling in the transit lane to bypass traffic, and having the most broken down banged up car on the road.

Oh and expect to pay a hell of a lot for parking in Brisbane. $40.00 for 3.5 hours.

:iconfacewallplz:

I guess that's a major update for now. Hope everybody is well!
